David Burslem appointed Director of Interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Biodiversity

Message to staff from Professor Marion Campbell

Dear colleagues

I am delighted to announce that, following a competitive external recruitment process, Professor David Burslem has been appointed to the role of Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Biodiversity.

Professor Burslem will formally take up the role from 1 June 2022.

You will recall that, as part of the University’s Aberdeen 2040 strategy, the University outlined an explicit commitment to directly address the global challenge of climate change and ensuring a sustainable future through an interdisciplinary lens. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Environment and Biodiversity aims to bring together experts from multiple disciplines to develop innovative solutions (through interdisciplinary research and education) to address this global issue.

Professor Burslem will lead this initiative on behalf of the University. He will be developing his priorities over the coming months and will no doubt be meeting many of you as part of his discussions. Professor Burslem’s appointment completes the recruitment process for the Directors of the five Interdisciplinary Centres.

David will already be known to many of you through his role as Professor in Forest Ecology and Diversity in the School of Biological Science, a post which he has held for a number of years. David has also been undertaking the role of Interim Director for the interdisciplinary Centre over recent months. I look forward to working more closely with David in his new role and I am sure you that will all join me in congratulating him on his appointment.

Best wishes

Marion
