University and AUSA commit to tackling GBV

The University and AUSA have signed a new joint statement of commitment to tackle Gender Based Violence (GBV), sexual violence and harassment.

University Principal Professor George Boyne along with Deputy Director of People Nick Edwards met AUSA President Alisa Koester, Vice President Welfare Ivana Drdáková and CEO Graeme Kirkpatrick on Tuesday, 12 April, to discuss the statement, which recognises the intention of both organisations to work together to address GBV in the University community and society as a whole.

Deputy Director or People Nick Edwards said: “Gender Based Violence, in any form, is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Working together with AUSA we are dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming campus for all members of our student and staff community. First signed in 2018 our renewed agreement outlines our promise to continually review, develop and improve our policy and processes in place to support anyone who has been affected in any way by GBV.”

AUSA VP for Welfare Ivana Drdáková, said: “I am pleased to continue to work with the University to prevent and eradicate GBV. GBV can impact anyone at any time, but there is no place for it in our society. This is why it is so important that we commit to working together to improve our support for those impacted. I would like to ensure students that we are committed to constantly reviewing and adapting our processes and this agreement will be followed by action.”
