Written word submissions are being sought for a public light art piece which will feature as part of SPECTRA - Aberdeen's Festival of Light.
The University is delighted to be a key sponsor for 2022's event which will run from 10-13 February.
SPECTRA will once again light up the winter nights in Aberdeen encouraging audiences to get out and experience the city looking its best using interactive light sculptures, architectural projections and film to create new ways of exploring the city.
Lucid Creates, the artists behind TOGETHER - the spectacular light art pavilion coming to Aberdeen next month are asking for local writers to contribute to the site specific piece. Created as a reaction to the isolation of lockdown, the artwork is a huge pavilion-like open space in which communities can come together to celebrate their unity and uniqueness.
The artists will weave together the contributed written works into visuals which will then move around screens on the inner face of the pavilion’s rings accompanied by an ethereal soundscape. Written contributions need to have a connection to Aberdeen in some way - either its place, peoples, history, communities and we particularly want to hear your favourite local urban legends. There is no minimum or maximum length to the texts contributed as they will be woven in with visuals as part of the pieces and can be new or existing work.
To contribute words to TOGETHER, please email alison@curatedplace.com by Monday 17 January 2022. Please include the word ABERDEEN in the subject line of the email and your full name and the words you’re submitting in the body of the email or as an attached word / pdf document.
By contributing words you are giving permission for Curated Place (Spectra) and Lucid Creates to digitally store them and for the words to be displayed on the piece for the duration of SPECTRA 2022. All contributors will be acknowledged on the Spectra website.
