The University has been recognised for its continued commitment to supporting and transforming gender equality by Advance HE with an Athena SWAN Bronze renewal accreditation.
The University has held a Bronze Athena SWAN award since 2012. The award celebrates the University’s commitment to driving change to enhance equality, diversity and inclusion, with a particular focus on gender equality for people in all roles, of all gender identities and those facing intersectional inequalities.
The values of the Athena SWAN charter are firmly embedded across the University, with Bronze awards held by all Schools, including all Institutes within the SMMN, with the exception of the School of Psychology, who were recognised for the positive changes and impact they have made towards gender equality, with a prestigious Departmental Silver Award.
Well done to everyone involved, particularly the Senior Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Partners, the EDIC and Athena SWAN School Leads for their hard work in making this happen.
The team will now work to put the five year action plan in place which has identified key actions across the following areas:
- Key career transition points
- Career development
- Flexible working and managing career breaks
- Organisation and culture
- Intersectionality
- Support for trans staff and students
