Tributes have been paid to two former members of the University's Department of Politics and International Relations who passed away recently.

Craig McAngus and Byron Criddle passed away in December and January respectively.

Byron, who died at 78, was an internationally renowned author and lecturer in politics at the University throughout the 1980s, who was well-known for his study of British politics and general elections.

Craig, who passed away at 34, was known as an exceptionally gifted scholar of Scottish politics and public policy who lectured at Aberdeen from 2016-2018.  Craig was also a member of the Centre on Constitutional Change which has paid tribute to his work here

Mervyn Bain, Head of the School of Social Science, said: “We are extremely sad to have lost two valued former members of staff in Byron Criddle and Craig McAngus.

“They are both fondly remembered as friendly and collegiate experts in their respective fields, who were popular with students and staff alike.

“While they were based here in different eras, they both made a significant contribution to the department and we remain grateful to them for the work they undertook at Aberdeen.

“Our sincere condolences go to all those who have been affected by their deaths.”
