Student Communication update - 27 January

Dear students,

The University continues to monitor the situation relating to the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. Based on current information, and the fact that no cases have been identified in the UK, the risk to the UK is deemed to be low.

If you have travelled to Wuhan City in China in the last two weeks and feel unwell, call NHS 111 for advice.

At this time of year it is normal to see an increase in cases of the common cold and flu and guidance from the NHS will be useful to ensure you are taking care of yourself during the winter months. This includes:

  • Making sure you are following good hygiene - regularly wash your hands;
  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing;
  • Look out for symptoms of a cold, such as a sore throat and blocked nose and take suitable medication to combat these;
  • Rest and eat healthy food.

We recommend that students register with a local GP so you can access healthcare if and when you need it. Details of your local GP surgery where you can register can be found at NHS Inform.
