Latest version of Windows 10 and Office 2016

You can now install the latest version of Windows 10 on your University-managed Windows devices.

If you are already using Windows 10, you can now upgrade to the latest version.

In both cases, your MS Office will be upgraded to Office 2016 (Office 365 version).

Updating your Windows PC or laptop

You can use the self-service Software Center to update your device to Windows 10 and Office 2016.

  • If you currently use Windows 10:
    Search for Software Center
  • If you currently use Windows 7 or 8:
From the Start Menu, select All Programs > Microsoft System Centre 2012 > Configuration Manager > Software Center

From the Available Software tab, select Windows 10 1803 in place upgrade with O365 and click Install.

The upgrade can take up to 2 hours, so we strongly advise you to start the installation before leaving work for the evening.

Lab Devices

If you have lab or classroom devices you would like to upgrade to Windows 10, please contact the Service Desk for advice.

How do I know what version of Windows my device is currently running?

Look for the Start icon, at the bottom left of your screen.

If this is your Start icon, you have Windows 7 and should upgrade your device.

If this is your Start icon, you already have Windows 10, but can update to this very latest version

Why is this happening?

Windows 7 will be out of support in January 2020; after that, Microsoft will no longer provide security patches and bug fixes. As part of our Cyber Essentials+ accreditation, our aim is to ensure all devices have a fully supported operating system. For this reason, we encourage you to upgrade to Windows 10 sooner rather than later.
