As the new academic year begins the LGBT+ Staff and Postgraduate Student Network are encouraging staff and students to become visible allies of the LGBT+ community, regardless of whether you identify as LGBT+ yourself.
It is so important to have visible support from within and outwith the community, particularly for those students who may be coming to us from countries where such support is not so visible, for cultural or legal reasons.
The University of Aberdeen is a Stonewall Diversity Champion, sign the pledge to Come Out for LGBT, a campaign run by Stonewall that highlights the little ways in which you can make a big difference to the lives of LGBT people. Find out more information about the campaign here.
Stonewall also has a large number of resources that you can download for free, including posters that you could display in your office. It may not seem like much, but it can make a huge difference for LGBT staff and students to see these forms of support. You can access them here.
If you’re of the sporty variety then you could support the Rainbow Laces campaign and look extra dapper when you visit ASV all at the same time.
Please remember that all members of staff are welcome at the LGBT+ network events and can sit on the committee. If you would like to receive information about the network please e-mail lgbt-staff@abdn.ac.uk to be added to the mailing list or follow us on Facebook.
