University celebrates Excellence in Teaching Awards 2018

Six members of academic staff have been recognised in the University of Aberdeen's annual Excellence in Teaching Awards.

This year students were asked to nominate a lecturer who had enriched their studies; someone who had made a positive impact on their student experience and inspired them.

After reviewing over a hundred nominations, the University can proudly announce that this year’s winners are:

  • Majory Harper
    Divinity, History and Philosophy  (PG)
  • Viki Entwistle
    Medical Sciences (PG)
  • Stephen Fettes
    Business School Administration (UG)
  • Lorna Stewart
    Education (UG)
  • Marcus Bannerman
    Engineering (UG)
  • Ian Jones
    Medical Sciences (UG)

Peter McGeorge, Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning said: “It’s always one of the highlights of the year to recognise our outstanding academic staff.

“The Excellence in Teaching Awards help to showcase the efforts and dedication of our staff and their desire to provide our students with the very best experience. They highlight the exceptional teaching offered by the University to our students on campus in Aberdeen, as well as those studying online or in our international campus in Doha, Qatar.

“It was wonderful to see so many nominations again this year and I’d like to congratulate and thank all of this year’s winners, and everyone else who was nominated.”

Winners of undergraduate awards were presented with certificates of recognition during this week’s graduation ceremonies. Our postgraduate award winners will receive their certificates during graduations in November, and a special ceremony will be held in Qatar to recognise Stephen Fettes. Additionally each award winner will receive £500 to support teaching in their academic area.
