Prestigious award from the Higher Education Academy

Professor Alan Denison and Dr Darren Comber have been recognised as the University’s first Principal Fellows of the UK-wide Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Principal Fellowship is the highest level of award granted by the Higher Education Academy and recognises those who can demonstrate a sustained record of effective strategic leadership in academic practice and development both within their own institution and more widely across the Higher Education sector nationally and internationally.

Professor Denison is the first medical school teaching Dean in the UK to be awarded PFHEA

Dr Comber said: “The process has allowed me to reflect on my impact on raising the status of teaching both in our research-intensive institution and across Scotland over the last 15 years.”

Professor Denison added: “I hope that all colleagues involved in teaching will join me and other Higher Education Academy Fellows and Senior Fellows across our University to seek HEA (or equivalent) recognition to add value to their professional teaching and learning experience, and to strengthen our collective teaching and learning excellence.”

Professor Peter McGeorge, Vice-Principal for Learning & Teaching, commented: “These awards demonstrate clearly the University’s commitment to supporting our staff in their delivery of outstanding teaching.”
