Hello, fellow curious minds!
Have you ever wondered how artificial intelligence changes the intricate interplay between genius, creation, and humanity? Join us for a captivating workshop under the auspices of the Centre for Data and Artificial Intelligence and the Centre for Social Inclusion and Cultural Diversity, where we explore these fundamental notions through the lens of new technological developments. Whether you're a researcher in history, arts, philosophy, computing science, psychology, languages, sociology, anthropology, law, business, or any other field, we want to hear your insights and perspectives.
The workshop will begin with brief self-introductions from all participants. Colleagues from different areas of the University will then give 30-minute presentations about their research questions. In our quest to understand the distortions that AI has brought to the conceptualisations of genius, creation, and humanity, we will look at research questions such as:
- Who can and is allowed to ‘be creative’, and will the rise of machine learning affect our creativity and our interactions with each other?
- How do socio-economic structures and legal frameworks influence the recognition and valorisation of genius in terms of race, gender, class, and geographical location?
- In what ways do systemic inequalities and discriminatory practices hinder the recognition and nurturing of diverse forms of genius, challenging the myth of the 'self-made genius'?
- Who is accountable for AI-enabled cyber defence action?
- How to avoid the 'extinction' of human ingenuity in the age of AI?
- What is the relationship between ‘artificial’ and ‘human’ intelligence?
- What does it mean to exist as a human ‘in relation’ to AI?
- What are the implications of the potential use of machines in healthcare and the perceived boundaries of human ability
- Do our personal avatars’ creations belong to us, and can we be praised for them?
Each presenter will have 30 minutes for their presentation and 20 minutes for discussion. Following each presentation, we'll engage in multidisciplinary group discussions to unpack the presented research questions and shape a potential collaborative research project!
Unlike traditional conferences, this workshop is meant to be open-ended, encouraging questions rather than providing definitive answers. The aim is to create an environment where we can learn together across disciplines, so the emphasis is on dialogue, exchange, and collaborative exploration.
Together, let's unlock the mysteries and broaden our understanding of what it means to be human, a creator, and a genius in the age of artificial intelligence, and design future collaborations!
We look forward to seeing you there! Register now to secure your spot and participate in this exciting exploration. The programme brochure for the workshop can be found below:
