How will advances in data and artificial intelligence impact how we learn, conduct research, work and interact with those around us?

These are just some of the fascinating questions to be discussed by a panel of experts from across a wide range of disciplines and perspectives at this online event on 4 December.

Admission is free and all are welcome to join this event.

Panellists

Recent advances in big data, predictive analytics, and AI technologies such as ChatGPT will potentially have far-reaching social, economic, and political implications for the world we live in. Many of these impacts have the potential to be positive, for example, increased productivity, improved healthcare, and more sustainable transport and energy systems. However, we are also confronted with a growing debate around the legal and ethical issues involved in the use of data and AI.

As students and researchers working in the humanities, social sciences, physical sciences or life sciences, we also urgently need to understand how we can use computational data science and AI methods to harness the ever-increasing amounts of data available to us, so that we can advance knowledge in our fields.

Data and AI Research at Aberdeen

Our researchers have been at the forefront of research in data and AI for more than 30 years. Today, we are pushing the boundaries of research in the technical, commercial, social and ethical aspects of data and AI to tackle the big global challenges of climate change, energy transition, agri-food, life sciences & healthcare.

Data and AI is one of the key interdisciplinary challenges highlighted in the University's Aberdeen 2040 strategy where we can make a significant impact on the world around us. You can find more about our research projects here.
