Join us as we celebrate International Women's Day with a programme of online events taking place from Monday 8 - Saturday 13 March.

International Women's Day which falls on the 8th of March each year, has been celebrated across the world since the early 1900s. Originally, its aim was to provide a forum for women to campaign for equality and women’s rights. Over time, it has evolved, and now in March each year, thousands of events are held throughout the world to recognise the progress that has been made, to inspire women, and to celebrate their achievements.

Events will take on the 2021 campaign theme of #ChooseToChallenge - choose to challenge and call out gender bias, discrimination and stereotypes.

As part of the online programme of events we will welcome keynote speakers; Anna Whitehouse, Trailblazing, straight-talking best-selling author, presenter, campaigner, and co-founder of 'Mother Pukka', and Jeffery Tobias Halter, gender strategist, author and president of YWomen.

British Science Week will also be celebrated with a panel discussion with Women in research who will reflect on the longstanding problems of gender inequality and how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted their research, lives, leadership roles, and how they are perceived.

The ever-popular Bright Club comedy evening will return with University researchers warming the virtual stage before headline comedian Janey Godley performs.  Pauline Cordiner Storyteller will end the week of celebrations with storytelling for children aged 3 - 12.
