At the end of July John Polanski travelled to Qikiqtarjuaq, 100km inside the Arctic Circle, to recover a lander that had been deployed the previous year as part of the ArcticNet project led by Professor Ursula Witte.
This equipment had been deployed in 2015 by Dr Keith Jackson to study the marine ecosystem while under the sea ice close to Baffin Island.
John reported "This was my first time in the Arctic and I found the area fascinating. The very things that make life difficult here, the wilderness and the isolation, are part of its appeal. I flew from Canada and it is actually as far north from Ottawa to Qikiqtarjuaq as Havana is to the south."
John was working aboard the Canadian Coast Guard vessel, Amundsen for the equipment recovery.
