Five subjects at the University of Aberdeen have been named among the best in the UK, according to a new national report.
Land & Property Management (2nd in UK, 1st in Scotland), Sociology (5th in UK), Civil Engineering (7th in UK), Creative Writing (10th in UK, 1st in Scotland), and General Engineering (10th in UK, 1st in Scotland) all fared well in the Complete University Guide rankings 2017.
Overall, the University has more subjects in the UK Top 10 and Top 20 compared to last year, with 21 subjects improving on last year’s score and four subjects entering the rankings for the first time.
The rankings measure a number of criteria deemed important to students, with Aberdeen improving in seven of the 10 categories, including student satisfaction, graduate prospects, good honours and degree completion.
Other highlights included Sports Science jumping from 79th place in the UK to 22nd; Physics and Astronomy rising from 42nd to 20th; and Electrical and Electronic Engineering moving from 35th to 16th.
Dr John Bone, Head of Sociology, said: “I am delighted that the department and staff have been recognised in this way. This is tribute to the hard work and commitment of all staff and students throughout the department.”
Igor Guz, Head of the School of Engineering, said: “I am delighted with our strong performance in the Complete University Guide, which has listed our General Engineering as the best in Scotland, and all of our engineering disciplines in the top 20 in the UK.
“This good news is testament to the efforts of colleagues who continue to work tirelessly to deliver the high quality teaching and research that the School of Engineering is renowned for, and which continues to produce high-calibre graduates."
