See how the Granite City sparkles as PechaKucha Night returns to Aberdeen

The City of Aberdeen will be celebrated in the final PechaKucha Night of 2015.

Sparkle in the Granite City is the theme of Aberdeen’s final PechaKucha Night of 2015, which will take place on Tuesday (December 1) at the Belmont Filmhouse.

PechaKucha means ‘chitchat’ in Japanese and the format was created by two architects who were fed up with lengthy presentations. PechaKucha Nights now run in over 700 cities around the world and the nights bring together art, design, research and fresh ideas. Each speaker presents images  following a strict format of 20 images for 20 seconds each, creating short presentations of 6 minutes and 40 seconds.

The Sparkle in the Granite City theme will see several speakers deliver presentations about places and projects in Aberdeen that inspire them. Subjects covered will include the world around us, history in Aberdeen and the future of culture in the city.

Highlights include Vicky Ewan from Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre presenting images that show how experiencing the natural world first-hand is the best way to learn about it, Gary Cameron from Aberdeen City Council will share the vision and plan for the City Culture Project and postgraduate student, Nikki Cassie will reflect on world-changing scientific discoveries from Aberdeen.

Dr Heather Doran of the University's Public Engagement with Research Unit said: “These nights are a great opportunity for people to share and learn about great work taking place in Aberdeen and beyond. Each night features a range of speakers from different backgrounds including subjects such as photography, science and art.

This event is free to attend and takes place at The Belmont Picturehouse from 7pm
