The Swedish department and the Centre for Scandinavian Studies at the University of Aberdeen are co-hosting a Nordic Literature Read-Aloud - with a North-East Scotland twist! This FREE event is open to all and will be held in the top floor of the Sir Duncan Rice Library, an award-winning building with the best views across Aberdeen. Designed by Danish architects Schmidt Hammer Lassen
Come along to hear in English about Astrid Lindgren's much-loved character Emil and his adventures in the early 20th century Swedish countryside, when Emil invited the whole poorhouse to a party and found a catch in his wolf trap.
Shorter sections will also be read out in Doric and a variety of Nordic languages, such as Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish.
This event relates to the Nordic Literature Week, during which the same chosen text is read aloud at events across the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as in Nordic institutions around the world. Join the same read aloud experience as over 150,000 other people around the world.
No pre-knowledge of a Scandinavian language required. Please remember to bring some fairy-lights or other battery lights to help create some atmosphere!
