Two University of Aberdeen Performance Swimming para athletes struck gold at the recent Citi Para Swimming World Series held at the University's Aberdeen Sports Village.
Toni Shaw took gold in the 400m freestyle, while Faye Rogers finished top of the podium in the 100m fly.
To add to her gold, Toni scooped bronze in the 200m individual medley, and was part of the 34 point 400m medley team which won silver. She also finished sixth in the 100m freestyle and tenth in the 100m fly.
It was a University of Aberdeen top two in the 400m freestyle as Faye finished second behind her teammate, Toni, to claim the silver. Faye rounded off the competition with seventh place in both the 100m freestyle and the 200m individual medley.
Speaking after her win, Toni said: “I was super excited to get to race in Aberdeen. I was happy with most of my swims - a few I wish were a bit quicker - but they were all the fastest I’ve gone this season. This meet gave me lots of things to work on over the next 2 months leading into trials in London.”
Faye added: “The meet was a great experience, it was really great to see some of the best swimmers in the world racing in Aberdeen. I’m super happy with how I swam, it has given me a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
It’s just the latest successes for the dynamic duo. Before entering the competition, Faye held 11 British records, two European records and two world records, while Toni held two British records, one European record, one world record, and claimed a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
The performance puts the pair in good stead ahead of the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
The Citi Para Swimming World Series was held at Aberdeen Sports Village, 1-4 February.
