The presentation is based upon interviews with survivors and others involved as well as archival research. A team of researchers from the University of Stavanger (Norway) as well as one from the Inland University of Applied Sciences in Lillehammer (Norway) started a research project to document memories from the accident in 2014. The research developed to include archival studies of the archives from the Norwegian Accident Commission as well as other archival material.
As the archives were closed to the public researchers had to gain access with a special permission from the National Norwegian Archival Authorities. The research is on-going and is planned to include comparative studies of the process of the accident commission after the Piper Alpha accident in Scotland as well as long- term effects and handling in schools and other public bodies. The results from the Norwegian research has so far been published in two Norwegian books and a number of articles.
