Who were the Jacobites?

History Scotland's inaugural lecture on 24 April 2018, will be held in the Apex Hotel, Dundee. This lecture series was developed along with the University of Dundee and will travel around Scotland.

Developed in association with the University of Dundee Centre for Scottish Culture, The History Scotland Lectures will be an ongoing series that consists of two public talks each year, free of charge and open to all, offering the latest research insights from leading experts on a huge range of topics.

This first debate will be given by two of Scotland's leading experts on the 18th century who will discuss the nature of Jacobitism and the movement’s thinking on Scotland and Britain: 

  • Professor Murray Pittock (University of Glasgow)
  • Professor Christopher Whatley (University of Dundee)

Come along to the Apex Hotel, Dundee on Tuesday 24 April 2018 to hear more about  ‘Who were the Jacobites and what did they want for Scotland?'.  Chaired by Mike Russell MSP, Scottish Government Minister for UK Negotiations on Scotland’s Place in Europe and Member of the Scottish Parliament for Argyll and Bute. 

All are welcome, completely free of charge, although anybody who would like to attend is asked to register their interest.
