Their paper presented a new semi-automated method for generating glacier reconstructions (glacier reconstructions are widely used in palaeoclimatic studies).
Led by Dr Ramón Pellitero and co-authored by Dr Brice Rea and Dr Matteo Spagnolo their award was for the 2016 Paper of the Year Award from the informatics category, by Computers & Geosciences.
The paper, entitled 'GlaRe, a GIS tool to reconstruct the 3D surface of palaeoglaciers', was an output from a Leverhulme Trust International Network Grant.
