2017 May Festival underway!

2017 May Festival underway!

The University of Aberdeen May Festival kicks off today (Friday), with a huge variety of events set to take place over the weekend.

The festival will take audiences on a journey of discovery where they will hear from the likes of Sir Tony Robinson and Call the Midwife actress Laura Main, learn about the research taking place right here in Aberdeen, or even take part in an archaeological dig.

The events taking place span a range of different themes, including Food and Drink, Sport, Science and Music.

The 2017 festival is also helping to celebrate Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology, and the University has a whole host of events for members of the public to enjoy from discovering more about the connections between Aberdeen and Robert the Bruce, to finding out more about the history of the Old Aberdeen campus on a guided tour.

At the Rowett Institute on Saturday, scientists will show members of the public how familiar foods such as yoghurt and bread can be adapted in order to improve our health.

In addition to the main Festival programme, a Children’s Festival will run throughout the weekend.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, said: “I am delighted that we are once again welcoming the public to our wonderful campus for the May Festival.

“As ever, the programme is full of varied and interesting events which will appeal to all age groups.

“I am extremely proud of the role the May Festival plays in the region’s cultural calendar, which is made possible only through the generous support of our partners and sponsors. I would like to thank them all for this support, and in particular, Total E&P, the title sponsor of the 2017 May Festival.”

Iain Brotchie, Communications Manager Total E&P UK, added: “Total is delighted to support the May Festival as Aberdeen University’s Kings College Campus prepares to play host to a weekend of cultural, historical and educational events.  We wish everyone a fantastic time enjoying and exploring all that is on.”
