This free talk by Ian Menter, Emeritus Professor of Teacher Education from the University of Oxford examines the international practices and research in the current Scottish context, based on a recent paper commissioned by the Scottish Council of Deans of Education.
All are welcome to this talk being held on Wednesday, 18 January 2017 from 5pm till 6.30pm, in the James Scotland Suite (Room MR028), MacRobert Building, King's Campus, University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK.
It examines international practices and research and relates the analysis of these insights to the current Scottish context and to the developments that have occurred since the publication of Teaching Scotland's Future (The Donaldson Report).
The paper concludes that Scottish teacher education has many facets that may be acclaimed and that in looking ahead, it is crucial to maintain the significant involvement of universities in all provision, in order to ensure that teachers in Scotland are equipped to face the challenges of the twenty first century and to play their part in the continuing development of civic culture and challenging education disadvantage.
