Evening Lecture discussing Sir William MacGregor
The ethnographic collection of William MacGregor reflects a nineteenth century and early twentieth century colonial career that included posts in Fiji, New Guinea, Newfoundland, Lagos and Queensland. This talk by artist, Alana Jelinek, will describe a number of her artworks that examine a similar range of cultures and artefacts that form part of the collections of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge, and the Volkenkunde, Leiden, Netherlands. Especially for this talk, she will also briefly set out one or two thought experiments for proposals of artworks she would produce, given the opportunity, for the University of Aberdeen exhibition, Imperial Possessions: Sir William MacGregor, Doctor, Governor, Explorer and Collector.
