Three academics from the Department of Anthropology will participate in an international event centred around the Anthropocene; a term proposed to describe the last 200 years during which human activities have significantly impacted on global ecosystems.

Rachel Harkness and Judith Winter from the ERC-funded Knowing from the Inside project, and Cristián Simonetti from the Fragility, Adaptation and Resilience (FAR) to Climate Change in the North programme, will take part in the Anthropocene Slam: a Cabinet of Curiosities.

In the spirit of a poetry slam, the team will join other scholars and artists in order to ‘pitch’ objects for inclusion in an Anthropocene cabinet of curiosities. Presenters will have 10 minutes to explain to an audience why their object deserves to be included in the cabinet.

The object being proposed by Rachel, Judith and Cristián is Liquid Rock – more commonly known as concrete! The event will be open to the public and will culminate in the audience voting on which objects they think should make it into the exhibition cabinet.

More information on the slam and the different objects under consideration, as well as a live stream of the event, is available at the following URL htttp://nelson.wisc.edu/che/anthroslam/index.php.
