Cold Amazon and The Greenland Ice Sheet in a Changing Climate, Film Screening
-

Join us for two short films exploring the effects of resource extraction on northern waters.
What does a river mean to those who live along its shores? Cold Amazon highlights the significant environmental, economic, and spiritual roles played by the Mackenzie River Basin in northern Canada. Highlighting the voices of those whose lives are entwined with these waters, this film draws attention to both the importance and vulnerability of northern watersheds (22 mins).
How is a changing climate affecting northern snow, water, ice and permafrost? The Greenland Ice Sheet in a Changing Climate examines the effects of changes in climate on the Arctic 'cryosphere' and their consequences for people living in both the Arctic and around the world (15 mins).
Using a bicycle generator system to power the film projector takes this viewing off the power grid. Audience members can choose to participate in taking turns on the bicycle while watching the film or relax while our volunteers power the screening.
The film screenings will be followed by a public discussion.
