For two days in April at The Grassmarket Centre in Edinburgh. This truly unique festival combines one off concerts with dynamic and exciting workshops for both adults and children. Celebrating the best talent from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Shetland and Northern England.
Kristin Borgehed is a singer, dancer and double bass player from the deep Swedish forests, she performs as a soloist and in several different bands.
She is currently conducting postgraduate research at the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen, on tonality in northern traditional singing.
A member of the Nordic Network for Vocal Folk Music Research and the International Council of Traditional Music, Kristin performs regularly around northern Europe and teaches folk music at universities schools and festivals.
She is joined here by Nathan Bissette, an expert in British dance tunes currently based in Aberdeen. Nathan plays most stringed instruments and moves easily between styles such as traditional, early music, electronic and jazz.
Kristin and Nathan’s performances are known for challenging concepts of tradition, with their arrangements being created along with the listeners as the performance unfolds. Part of their richly varied repertoire includes an exploration of Scotland and Scandinavia’s shared ballad tradition as well as Scandinavian mouth music.
They have collaborated with musicians, artists and scientists in concerts, recordings, workshops and conferences all over Europe and beyond.
