Dr Ilia Xypolia has published her latest paper in the Diplomacy & Statecraft, entitled 'Imperial Bending of Rules: The British Empire, the Treaty of Lausanne, and Cypriot Immigration to Turkey'.
In the paper, Dr Xypolia drawing on a wealth of declassified archival material, highlights the key role of the British imperialism in understanding the creation of the so-called Cyprus issue. In particular, Dr Xypolia explores the British Empire's violation of an understudied provision of the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne that provided the emigration of the Muslim population of Cyprus to the newly-established Republic of Turkey.
