The Fraser Noble Building is on the Library plaza opposite the Meston building and houses the School of Engineering and the Department of Mathematics.

The building was constructed in 1963 to house the Natural Philosophy department and was opened by Sir G P Thomson, former Professor of Natural Philosophy at Aberdeen who won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the work that he did here in the late 1920s.

Later known as the Physics Building, it was extensively refurbished and renamed in November 1988 in recognition of the valuable services to the University of Sir Fraser Noble MBE, MA, LLD, FRSE, the University's Principal and Vice Chancellor from 1976-1981.
