Dr John Bone Discusses Neoliberal Precarity and Primalization

Dr John Bone participated in an interview with the research platform, Faculti, discussing his 2021 paper, 'Neoliberal precarity and primalization: A biosocial perspective on the age of insecurity, injustice, and unreason'.

In the article, published in The British Journal of Sociology, Bone draws a connecting line between the growing sense of mental and emotional fugue and susceptibility to marginal and radicalizing discourses.

Looking at the role of social media and the discourse of populist politicians, Bone considers the urgency of an evolving sociology that reflects the changes occurring in society today.

If by adhering to longstanding disciplinary prescriptions we fail to understand the broader picture, then we risk failing to fully comprehend how and why current trends have emerged

In the interview, which lasts 35 minutes, Bone revisits the article and emphasises the key conclusions to be taken from the piece.

The full article can be found in the September issue of the British Journal of Sociology, and the interview can be watched, here.
