Krzysztof Adamczyk will deliver the third paper in the Department of Sociology's Seminar Series, entitled 'Mixed Method Approaches for Studying Social Mobility Experience: The Case of Aberdeen', to be held jointly online and on campus on November 24.
In the paper, Krzysztof explores the ways that methodological approaches have evolved in their approach to social mobility studies, and the implications of the increased interest by qualitative researchers.
An ESRC-funded PhD student in the Department of Sociology, Krzysztof's thesis draws on the Aberdeen Children of the 1950s cohort study to examine how individuals understand, experience and evaluate upward social mobility.
As each methodological paradigm reaches drastically different conclusions, a power struggle between them has ensued; I shall discuss whether such a gap between paradigms can be bridged and if not, what can we do about it
Earlier this year, Krzysztof appeared on Darren McGarvey’s BBC documentary, Class Wars, where he discussed the unease about class in the public and academic discourses.
Reflecting on this, his paper this week will interrogate, 'how do people experience upward social mobility?' and 'are there any hidden costs of climbing the social ladder?'.
The Sociology Seminar Series will be taking place online and in KCG7 in Kings College, on campus, between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.. To obtain the link to attend online, please contact Dr Luisa Gandolfo.
