The University of Aberdeen has been ranked among the world's top universities for anthropology, according to the 2024 QS Subject Rankings.
Anthropology is the comparative study of human societies in all their diversity. It seeks to understand cultural life in a wide range of social activities. Anthropologists carry out their research through long-term, in-depth fieldwork.
At Aberdeen, our staff specialise in regions as diverse as Canada, the Central Asian Republics, Iceland and Scandinavia, North Africa, Oceania, Siberia, Scotland and the UK, South America, and Tibet and the Himalayas. Along with our undergraduate degrees, we have a large contingent of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers. We welcome applications and proposals to study or work with us.
Our success in the latest QS subject rankings builds on our success in the most recent Guardian University Guide rankings, where Aberdeen ranked 4th in the UK for Anthropology and Archaeology.
