World experts in health psychology to arrive in Aberdeen

Hundreds of the world's foremost experts in Health Psychology are expected to arrive in the city this week as the University of Aberdeen hosts the biggest conference in the discipline's calendar

Around 900 delegates from all over the world are due to attend the conference which will cover the breadth of Health Psychology under the theme: ‘Behaviour Change: Making an Impact on Health and Health Services’.

Health Psychology is a branch of psychology that focusses on understanding how psychological, behavioural, and cultural factors contribute to physical health and illness.  Some of the topics up for discussion this week include diet and exercise, understanding risky behaviours and how to deliver healthcare services to meet patients’ needs.

Hosted by the University for the first time, the 30th annual conference of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS) and the UK Division of Health Psychology (DHP) will be held at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre,  from the 23rd - 27th of August.

Professor Marijn de Bruin, Health Psychology group lead at the University said: “We are delighted to bring the EHPS conference to Aberdeen this year.   EHPS brings leading Health Psychology researchers from all over the world together to present their research and share ideas with other experts in their field.

“The University has a highly accomplished Health Psychology team that produces innovative and highly-relevant work and we look forward to sharing this research with our peers throughout the week. "

Steven Daun, Sales Manager - Associations at AECC said: “It is such an honour to be hosting the EHPS Conference as this is the first time has taken place in Aberdeen. Hosting the conference in Aberdeen will provide a well-deserved platform to showcase the world class research which is currently taking place at the University of Aberdeen in this field.”
