University in the top five for graduate employment

The University of Aberdeen is in the top five UK Universities for graduate employment, new data published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency has shown.

The data from 151 providers published by the Higher Education Statistics Agency show that 128 institutions had a graduate employment rate (graduates in work or further study after six months) above 92 per cent for those graduating in 2014-15, with 28 achieving a score in excess of 96 per cent. The University of Aberdeen scored 96.6 per cent.

The data will be a key metric for the teaching excellence framework (TEF).  In the TEF, institutions will be assessed against benchmarks that control the subjects that they offer and the entry qualifications of their students.

Professor Peter McGeorge, Vice Principal for Learning & Teaching said: “This is great news. We are always delighted to see so many of our graduates transitioning successfully into work or further study so soon after completing their courses.  This clearly reflects the very high quality of the teaching here at Aberdeen and the support students receive from staff, the students themselves, our Careers Service and the close relationships we have with employers across a wide range of business and industry."

Peter Fantom, Head of the Careers Service at Aberdeen added: “The University Careers Service is available to all students throughout their time at Aberdeen, and this continues even after they have graduated. Students can use the Service to explore their options in order to decide upon their chosen career path and develop their skills. We offer various employability initiatives to help them, including work placements and career mentoring.”
