Choosing Aberdeen is 'best decision I ever made'

Having a close encounter with healthcare professionals while experiencing personal loss during the covid-19 pandemic inspired Neha Raj to complete a MSc degree in Health Data Science and gain a job with the NHS.

After gaining extensive experience working in the oil and gas industry returning to studying in a new field was very daunting for Neha.

However, she was offered a full scholarship for her studies with the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition by the Data Lab which she says inspired her to perform to her ‘utmost potential’ during her degree.

She said: “It was a big challenge to pivot my career towards Data Science and to get back to studying while balancing family responsibilities.  However, having a close encounter with health service professionals while experiencing personal loss during the Covid 19 pandemic changed my life forever and made my determination to get into Health Data Science even stronger.”

Neha, who was a student representative during her degree, will take on a role as a data analyst with the NHS working on the Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicine Administration project (HEPMA).

She added: “Studying for my MSc has boosted my confidence and opened many new doors of opportunity for me. It has helped me in moving my career to more satisfying work in an in-demand area.

“After having lived in Aberdeen for more than a decade, when I decided to further pursue my career in Data Science, the University of Aberdeen was an obvious choice. I had seen the campus and the beautiful library building from the outside and had the desire to explore the campus as a student. Moreover, the University has consistently ranked amongst the top universities in the UK. My student experience was awesome, I was learning new skills and had tremendous support in any area I needed, be it academic, social, financial or career guidance. Choosing Aberdeen for my MSc is the best decision I have ever made.”
