Centre for Women's Health Research - event marks anniversary

An event to celebrate the first anniversary of the official launch of the University's Centre for Women's Health Research will be held at the Rowett Institute on Wednesday (March 6).

Attendees will hear more about some of the exciting developments within the Centre including the partnership with the new Baird Family Hospital, and plans to enhance the world-class care within this important facility through collaboration and ground-breaking medical research.

Lead researchers from the Centre will be on hand to answer questions about their areas of expertise, including fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, and menstrual issues - in particular endometriosis and menopause.

There will also be an opportunity to hear more about the impact that the inspiring research undertaken by the Centre will have for women and their families across the North-east of Scotland and beyond.

The Centre for Women’s Health Research Centre will be based in the forthcoming £167 million Baird Family Hospital and Anchor Centre within the Foresterhill health campus, scheduled to open in 2021.

Professor Steve Heys, Head of the University’s School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, said: “The University of Aberdeen has pioneered the transformation of women’s health care for many decades, in particular through our internationally-recognised research in obstetrics and gynaecology, which began with Professor Sir Dugald Baird in the 1940s and continues today.

“Launched by Her Excellency Dr Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al Thani in March 2018, the Aberdeen Centre for Women’s Health Research has a mission to achieve excellence in research across the spectrum of women’s health, and to enhance the University's position as a global leader in this area.

"This event is an excellent opportunity to find out what has already been achieved in the last 12 months and what exciting developments are on the horizon."
