I completed the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at the University of Aberdeen. This was inspired by my passion for health equity and social determinants of health. The program offered a diverse range of courses, with Health Policy and Systems Research, Evaluating Policy Effects in Practice, Health Informatics, and Applied Statistics standing out as my favorites. Through the MPH program, I also developed a new interest in leveraging health data to improve health outcomes and service delivery.
Looking back on my university journey, certain experiences particularly shaped my time at Aberdeen. As a Student Ambassador, I played an active role in supporting the university's student services team. I also served as Vice President of the British Red Cross on Campus, where I had the opportunity to coordinate fundraising activities to support local charities in Aberdeen. This was a fulfilling experience. Furthermore, I completed an internship at Apian Limited, where I managed an exploratory project focused on improving access to colonoscopy services in the Scottish Highlands by using unmanned aerial drones to transport colon capsule briefcases.
Following the completion of my master's degree, I work as a Project Manager at Alanda Health, where I support Monitoring and Evaluation, and evidence generation activities for various Global Health programmes. I continue to volunteer with the British Red Cross as a Digital Support Volunteer. Moreover, I am completing online courses in health data science to hone my analytical skills.
For anyone considering an MPH degree, I strongly recommend the programme at the University of Aberdeen. The multi-disciplinary MPH programme offers a range of specialist elective courses, allowing you to tailor your studies to your career interests. Also, the course tutors are very supportive and invested in your academic and professional success.
