Dr Fransiska Louwagie has co-edited a new thematic issue of European Judaism, entitled Displacement, Memory and the Visual Arts: Second-Generation (Jewish) Artists.
This special issue developed from the observation that the work of second-generation Jewish visual artists, especially those working in the UK, has so far received much less attention than that of first-generation refugees and survivors. This publication addresses this gap in the literature by bringing together articles by academics, artists and curators to systematically explore the field of second-generation art practice. It focuses on visual art practices in the UK, as well as the Netherlands, Canada and Israel.
A publication launch will be organised as part of the Insiders/Outsiders Festival on 24 April, and a further launch event will be scheduled in collaboration with the George Washington Wilson Centre for Art and Visual Culture and the Centre for Modern Languages Research.
