The exhibition will be run in collaboration with the cultural diplomacy organisation, Casa Árabe, as parts of the 18th Biennial Photograph Festival in Cordoba.
Casa Árabe, in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen, is displaying this set of works at its Andalusian headquarters on the “Exposición de Arte Marroquí. Córdoba, 1946” as part of the 18th Biennial Photography Festival in Cordoba. “Exposición de Arte Marroquí. Córdoba, 1946” is a photographic show about the city of Cordoba’s past and the Spanish-Moroccan relations at that time, framed by the early period of General Franco’s dictatorship, the end of the Spanish Civil War and the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco (1912-1956). It focuses on a colonial exposition of Moroccan arts, crafts and music curated by the Spanish colonial administration and in collaboration with prominent Moroccan figures, some of whom would become nationalists for the independence cause. Underlying the project “Exposición de Arte Marroquí. Córdoba, 1946” is the idea of recovering the local memory and past of Cordoba and Spanish-Moroccan relations, contextualised within the scenario of colonial control and asymmetrical power relations existing at the time.
