The Arrival of Spring
The University of Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra performs a concert of familiar and less well-known music in the beautiful surroundings of St Machar's Cathedral. We celebrate the arrival of spring with Delius's evocative 'On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring' and Lili Boulanger's sparkling 'D'un matin de printemps'. Final-year student Mairi McKellar is the soloist in the Viola Concerto by Cecil Forsyth (1870-1941): a work of stature that deserves to be better known. The concert concludes with a performance of DvoĆak's best-loved work, the exhilarating Ninth Symphony ('From the New World').
