Join cellists, composers and writers involved in this fascinating project, which has ranged from collaborations between composers, musicians and writers to workshops in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray schools: Matthew Sharp, Shane Strachan, Aileen Sweeney and Emily De Simone, in discussion with Sound Festival’s Fiona Robertson and WORD Centre’s Helen Lynch. Includes screening of short film about We Need to Talk/Il Faut Q’on Parle and new work by Aileen, Emily and Shane.
Wirds an Soonds is a collaborative project between Sound Festival and UoA WORD Centre for Creative Writing, growing out of We Need to Talk/Il Faut Q’on Parle, by cellist-composers Matthew Sharp and Noémi Boutin, and WORDs &… 2019. It has included a group of local writers in Doric working with Noémi and composer Laura Bowler, as well as workshops in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray Schools with Shane Strachan, Aileen Sweeney and Emily De Simone.
Sound Festival’s Fiona Robertson and WORD Centre’s Helen Lynch will chair a discussion with several of the writers/cellists/composers involved, charting the origins, evolution and future of the project. The event will include a short film screening of a short film about We Need to Talk/ Il Faut Q’on Parle, as well as featuring new work by North-East writer Shane Strachan, and musician-composers Aileen Sweeney and Emily De Simone.
This event is part of the WayWORD Festival and in association with Sound Festival.
