This is a past event
Directed by Alasdair Hunter, 'What Country Friends Is This?' is a dialogue between the past and the present.
In 1601 a troupe of English actors visited and performed in Aberdeen - part of a culture of touring that stretched across Europe, and is particularly well evidenced in GdaĆsk Poland, where English actors performed regularly from the late 1590s.
Taking inspiration from this historic visit, our performance weaves contemporary verbatim stories of migration and arrival in a foreign land from Aberdeen’s Polish community and stories of travelling players past and present, with moments of arrival in Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
This production is in partnership with the Centre for Early Modern Studies and the WORD Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen. Performances will last for approximately 1 hour and will be standing.
