Applications are invited for the Croom Robertson scholarships. These scholarships are open to candidates applying to the PhD programme in Philosophy who hold an undergraduate or postgraduate degree from the University of Aberdeen. Eligible candidates’ University of Aberdeen degree need not be in Philosophy.
Candidates must study full-time on-campus. The scholarships will be awarded on the strength of candidates’ overall profiles as presented in their PhD applications including academic and/or professional achievement, research proposal, and letters of reference.
The value of each scholarship is a stipend of £15,000 per academic year for 36 months of supervised study. Additionally, if the recipient is a home (UK) student for fee purposes their tuition fee will be waived. If the recipient is an international student for fee purposes, they will be responsible for paying the difference between the home fee and the international fee rate. Check the tuition fee rates for PG Research programmes. Up to 3 scholarships will be awarded with a start date of 1st October 2024 or 1st January 2025.
In addition to pursuing their doctoral research, candidates will be expected to participate in the activities of the Philosophy department, including research seminars, presentation of work in progress and workshops/conferences. Typically, doctoral students are offered the opportunity to work as postgraduate tutors in undergraduate Philosophy courses on a paid basis. However, undertaking this work is not a condition of the scholarships and any payment for this work will be additional to the scholarships’ stipend.
