Text selection: III, P43-General Definition of the Affects
For Autumn 2024 we will be reading through one of the most philosophically and theologically influential books in western history: Spinoza’s posthumous work, the Ethics. We will be doing so in conversation with an excellent introductory text Spinoza’s Ethics by Aberdeen’s own Beth Lord. Our pattern will be to use Prof. Lord’s book as a guide to the reading (extremely helpful to newcomers to the text) and then spend the bulk of our time together with the primary text of the Ethics. Our aim will be to read the 200 or so pages of the Ethics by the end of the autumn term.
Any students or staff from Philosophy, and Divinity, and beyond are warmly invited to attend!
