The Bible and Christian Ethics
University of Aberdeen, March 30th, 2020
Grant Macaskill - Keynote Speaker
This year’s postgraduate conference will explore the role of the Bible in Christian Ethics. We hope to consider this theme from a number of different approaches including, but not limited to:
- The historical relation of the Bible to the development of Christian Ethics as a discipline
- The relationship of contemporary Biblical scholarship to ethics
- The role of other theological disciplines (e.g. Systematic Theology) in conceptualising the proper use of the Bible in Christian Ethics
- The status of extra-Biblical sources of ethical knowledge in theology
- Analyses of problematic uses of the Bible in historical or contemporary settings
- Case studies of how the Bible has or is being used to shape the ethical outlooks of particular communities

The keynote will be delivered by Professor Grant Macaskill. He is the Kirby Laing Chair of New Testament exegesis at the University of Aberdeen. His recent works include Living in Union with Christ: Paul's Gospel and Christian Moral Identity (Baker Academic), The New Testament and Intellectual Humility (Oxford University Press), and Autism and the Church: A Biblical and Theological Study (Baylor University Press).
