Skinner has written out this tune on the outside of an envelope which is postmarked 3.30 pm Oct 28 1908 Dundee. It was sent to James McPherson of Kirriemuir. 'Thrums' is a local name for Kirriemuir, popularised in J M Barrie's novel, 'A Window in Thrums'. Skinner refers his pupil McPherson to the 'Cairngorm Manuscript in the hands of D Morrison Beauly'.
