Page 1 of 2, printer's proof, Rothiemurchus Rant
JSS0634
Page 1 of 2, printer's proof, Rothiemurchus Rant Final proof copy of the second tune on page 21 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. The bars crossed out with blue crayon were deleted. They were replaced with a melody that is (basically) one tone higher, and with a different bass line.

The Duke of Fife's Welcome to Deeside Final proof copy of the second tune on page 31 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. The corrections are marked in red ink. Most are additions: one slur, one tie, two accents. There is also a '9' at the bottom right which needs to be deleted.
Balmoral Highlanders
JSS0638
Balmoral Highlanders This is a 'second' final proof copy of the second tune on page 39 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. The music still needs 'further attention'. The correction is marked in red ink.
Culloden Day or Inverness Gathering
JSS0639

Gertie Gibb
JSS0640
Gertie Gibb Final proof copy of the second tune on page 74 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. Unusually, there are no corrections, which would have been marked in red ink.
Mrs Will
JSS0641
Mrs Will Final proof copy of the second tune on page 77 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. Unusually, there are no corrections, which would have been marked in red ink.
Johnnie (Bob) Steele
JSS0642
Johnnie (Bob) Steele Final proof copy of the second tune on page 82 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. The corrections are marked in red ink. In Skinner's manuscript version of the piece (JSS0092), the composer was not known. Later, either Skinner or Greig found the tune in the 'Violin Repository', with the correct title - Johnnie Steele, and composer - J. Barnet. Click on the audio link to hear Skinner playing it.
Largo's Fairy Dance
JSS0643
Largo's Fairy Dance Final proof copy of the second tune on page 88 of the Harp and Claymore collection. Once the printer has set the music and text, a 'final proof' copy is printed and returned to the author for corrections. Skinner and Greig would have been happy to see that this proof copy needed no corrections, which would hav been marked in red ink. You can listen to Skinner playing this by clicking on the audio link below (cd18e).
