Genetic effects of rice crops and genomic responses to an intertidal anemone to diesel oil
For our next informal seminar, PhD students Jake Hill and Hamish Williams, will be talking about their research this Friday 15th March at 1 pm in Room G27, Cruickshank building.
Jake will be talking about "the indirect genetic effects that occur in rice crops and the impacts of these effects on breeding selection. Current selection for crop breeding focuses on traits with a high group performance, however, these methods overlook the indirect genetic effects that occur in social interactions between individual plants and their neighbours".
Hamish will be talking about "understanding the genomic response of an intertidal anemone (Actinia equina) to exposure to diesel oil. This study also explores how the effect of a past exposure to stress can influence future responses to diesel oil in terms of a genomic response”.
