Exploring parasite-host interactions in the bovine gastrointestinal nematode Ostertagia ostertagi, using 3D cell cultures and spatial transcriptomics with Dr Marc Faber
Today Dr Marc Faber from Moredun Research Institute, Edinburgh joins us.
Marc works within the Moredun’s vaccines and diagnostics team developing new therapeutic approaches to combat parasitic diseases in livestock and poultry. He has been instrumental in developing 3D organoid culture systems and spatial transcriptomic (Nanostring GeoMx) and proteomic approaches to identify novel disease biomarkers and vaccine candidates. During his talk, Marc will allude to the broader use of such technology to aid the epidemiology and ecology / evolutionary biology of infectious diseases.
Marc will bring along and demo his VR headset for visualizing 3D spatial data (a great tool for outreach activities!). He will be available to demo his VR kit and chat with SBS staff and students in the coffee room from 3-5 pm.
