Using the power of meta-analysis to predict population responses to environmental change
Dr Natalie Pilakouta will be giving an informal seminar on ”Using the power of meta-analysis to predict population responses to environmental change” in Cruickshank G27 this Friday at 1 pm. Check out more about Natalie's lab group and research themes here: https://www.nataliepilakouta.com/.
Synopsis:
The ability to generate general predictions for how populations will respond to human-induced environmental changes is crucial for management and conservation efforts. Yet, it is difficult for individual empirical studies to address this issue, as they typically focus on a single species, so their results may not be generalisable. By synthesising data from published studies, meta-analyses can detect common patterns across a wide range of taxa and allow us to generate some general predictions. In this talk, I will discuss some of our recent meta-analyses focusing on animal fertility, mating dynamics, inbreeding depression, and parental care under environmental change.
